The large-scale rollout of Windows 11 began on October 5, marking the first major update in six years. In this post we will focus on how and when to upgrade Microsoft Windows 11.

Windows 11 is available as a free download for existing Windows 10 users but is not yet available for all supported Windows devices. And not all new features are currently available as Microsoft has already announced this on its blog post in August.

The latest operating system offers significant improvements in security and management features. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new, what these changes mean for your organization, and how to ensure that your organization is ready to move to Windows 11.

You can expect some new multitasking features, and the Start menu is in a new location. However, it does not include any of the expected updates: support for Android mobile apps in the new app store. Microsoft has also not offered a date for the availability of Android apps, except that they will be rolling out in a “preview” trial in the coming months, the post said.

Microsoft has simplified the design of Windows and improved its handling of utilities. Windows 11 introduced new built-in security features. Microsoft introduced this update to add business-critical security features. Some of the major security features includes TPM 2.0, built-in hardware security, passwordless authentication with Windows Hello, and secure core PCs.

Microsoft said the launch will be “phased and measured,” and new qualified devices will receive the first update, while the rest will receive a free update between October and mid-2022, depending on hardware, date and time, device age, and other factors. You’ll receive a notification from Windows Update informing you when Windows 11 is available, or you can check it manually.

While waiting for a new operating system to arrive from Microsoft, you can check if your computer can automatically update to Windows 11 (you need to be running Windows 10 first to do this. You also don’t need to update to Windows 11 immediately, if you don’t want – Microsoft will continue to support Windows 10 until October 2025.
