The Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) measures the time it takes for most of the first screen display of a page to be visible. To provide a great user experience, you should run LCP within 2.5 seconds of page loading.
The First Input Delay (FID) measures the time it takes a visitor to take action. Poor FID experiences include not being able to click on another page, add a product to your cart, or enter a query in the site’s search bar for a period of time. The FID of the page must be less than 100ms to provide a good user experience.
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) measures the vertical displacement of pages while loading interactive elements, images, ads, and other elements. Visitors will get a worse CLS experience on sites where the link they are trying to click suddenly moves two inches down the screen or the text they are reading moves unexpectedly out of the screen. The CLS of the page should be kept below 0.1 to provide a good user experience.
These three key basic elements of core web vitals (Largest Contentful Paint, First Input Delay and Cumulative Layout Shift) will soon form the basis for measuring the load, interactivity, and visual stability of your website.
